Emerging into the light
might be equated to
groping your way out of a cave
First a small glimmer appears
that catches your attention,
and arouses your curiosity
This entices you to begin
slow steps toward that which is seen
The closer you get to the light,
the more it seems to beckon
and the more attractive it is
Until finally, at long last,
you find yourself standing in the open
and in the full spectrum of light
How frightening it might appear at first
to someone unused to this wonder
For to be so totally exposed and unsheltered
can seem perilous and risky
Yet if you endure and face the fear,
you will realize that the light warms your soul
and fills it with strength and joy
Then the cave which you have left behind
is seen for that which it is,
cold, lonely, and unappealing
Let yourself walk into the light
and savor its illumination
For it will always lead you to the path
that will guide you to your home at last
